Rural Missions

Woodcutting Project

The Woodcutting Project is a long-standing tradition for the Rural Mission. The wood is given freely to elderly and low income families who depend upon this firewood for heating during the winter months. Many would otherwise have no source of heat. In recent years, this ministry has been led by Greg Dixon and some of his fellow members at Rockville Presbyterian Church. This ministry is very important to those who depend upon their giving and commitment. Anderson Mack, Jr. of the Mission and many volunteers continue to work throughout the winter cutting, splitting, stacking and delivering this wood to those who wait for their trucks and dump trailers to arrive.

Two weeks before Christmas a youth group from St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. spent a cold but heartwarming afternoon in the woodyard experiencing this ministry for the first time. They made the hard work fun and adventuresome. Here are some of their pictures. The existing cut supply had just about been exhausted and their hard work blessed a number of families with a new supply and warm nights during the holidays!
